Eva Nogales

Nogales obtained her B.S. in Physics by the Universidad Autónoma de Madrid (1988), Ph.D. in Biophysics at Keele University (UK ) (1993) and did postdoctoral training at the Lawrence Berkeley National Laboratory (LBNL) with Dr. Downing (1993 -98). Presently, she is a Senior Faculty Scientist at LBNL, Professor of Biochemistry, Biophysics and Structural Biology UC Berkeley, HHMI Investigator, and member of the National Academy of Sciences since 2015 and of the American Academy of Arts and Sciences since 2016. Nogales research is dedicated to the visualization of macromolecular function, using cryo-EM as a main experimental tool. She studies two different areas of essential eukaryotic biology: central dogma machinery in the control of gene expression, and cytoskeleton interaction and dynamics in cell division. Among her recently received awards are the Keith Porter Lecture Award by the ASCB (2016), the Mildred Cohn Award by the ASBMB (2016) and the Dorothy Crowfoot Hodgkin Award by the Protein Society (2017) .
